This Sunday, June 19th is Father’s Day. Did you know Father’s Day has its roots in a simpler time over 100 years ago? One Mr. William Jackson Smart, a civil war veteran, was a farmer living near Spokane, Washington when his wife died in labor and he found himself raising five children and a newborn by himself. One of those children was Sonora Smart Dodd, who as an adult realized the strength and selflessness her father had shown in raising his children as a single parent.
Ms. Dodd first had the idea of a Father's Day while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909. She worked locally – and evidently fast - to promote the idea, and the first Father’s Day was observed on June 19th, 1910 in Spokane, Washington. In other towns and cities across the USA, the idea slowly took hold. Finally, in 1966 President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day and in 1972 President Richard Nixon established a permanent national observance on that date.
STRENGTH, STERN DISCIPLINARIAN, SAGE ADVICE
These are the words or phrases a lot of us use to describe our dads.
Dad always had those sayings and quotes, you know, the ones that contained a hidden message or pushed you to succeed at a difficult task, or towards a higher level of performance at something.
In honor of our dads, I have included some of those famous quotes that we have heard FROM our dads or have used ourselves. I am sure as you read through the list you will recognize a few of these “Dadisms”.
Because I'm the Dad, that's why!
Go ask your mother.....
I brought you into this world, and I can take you out!
I'm a Dad, I know everything.
The sooner you learn to stand on your own two feet, the better off you'll be.
That's just the way life is, son.
You make a better door than a window!
Were you born In a Barn?
Do you think money grows on trees?
I haven’t developed gray hairs for nothing!
You are too young to understand this.
My dad would always try to get me to eat my dinner by saying "It'll put hair on your chest." I never understood this because I was a little girl.
When I ask dad where I could find a helping hand, he said, " At the end of your own arm". -
"Keep crying, and I'll give you something to cry about."
"Be sure you leave things better than you found them."
As you celebrate Father’s Day on Sunday, be sure to tell him THANKS for all he has done for you. And remember, the best compliment you can give your dad is to raise your son in the likes of him.
HAPPY FATHERS DAY TO ALL THE DADS OUT THERE!!!
P.S. In honor of all you dads out there, we are offering a FREE 20 MINUTE WATER MASSAGE to you as our way of saying THANKS.
Just call Kathy at the office and she will get you scheduled for your FREE FATHERS DAY WATER MASSAGE.

To celebrate the summer we have decided to give away this FREE GRILL on Friday July 1, just in time for the 4th of July. Be the envy of the neighborhood by winning this awesome grill. Who knows it might even make you a better cook too. (NOOO...the handsome models do not come with the grill).
Now you ask “how can I win this awesome FREE grill”? Keep your pants on and I will tell you….It’s quite simple. Every time you come to the office for treatment you get entered into the drawing. What’s even better is when you refer a family member, friend, neighbor or even a stranger to our office you get entered 10 times. Now come on, how easy is that? Like shooting fish in a barrel, right?
But wait…there’s more. On July 7th we will be taking 30 of our patients and their families to a Louisville Bats game at Slugger Field. We are providing the tickets and transportation to and from the game. Here’s the good part. Every time you enter yourself to win the grill, you also get entered for the Bats drawing. Now that’s pretty easy wouldn’t you say?
Another way you can get in on this action is to have all your friends on Facebook “like” our Shelby County Chiropractic Fan Page. Everyone who “likes” our page will also get entered into the drawings, whether they’re a patient or not. To make it easy for you we have included the link:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Shelby-County-Chiropractic/224213390022
We will hold the drawing for the grill on Friday, July 1st. Again just in time for you to come pick it up and be the envy of the neighborhood on July 4th.
Throughout the next few weeks we will be drawing winners for the Bats baseball game and we will notify the winners as we draw them. So keep an ear open if you have been in the office and entered the drawing.
Good Luck to All
